Richard C Dellinger’s debut novel gives us a terrifying glimpse into the near future. An intense, pulse-pounding ride that will dig its genetically modified claws into you and won’t let go. A book for the fans of Michael Crichton’s clever techno-thrillers (Jurassic Park) and Stephen King’s nerve-shredding horror novels (Cujo). World-renowned geneticist Dr. Peter Birch is barely hanging on. When his wife dies of Huntington's disease, his whole world crumbles. He loses his love, his career, his home… and his will to live. His teenage daughter is the only glimmer of joy in a bleak existence. Then a mysterious package arrives. Inside, a white mouse — genetically modified with miraculous abilities. When Pete’s daughter shows signs of the same genetic disease that killed his wife, he realizes that this mouse could be the key to saving her life. But who sent it, and why? As he races to find a cure he is recruited by a secretive company called Plinian Labs owned by an intensely private billionaire and philanthropist. Wielding a powerful new tool called CRISPR, the company is on the cutting edge of genetic engineering. But the more Pete learns about the company, the more desperate he becomes to escape. As the clock runs out, he must choose between saving his daughter… or saving the world.

I must admit, I'm not a big reader of fiction. I gravitate to those historical "truth is stranger than fiction" novels because I like the realism, believing that the kernels of truths and events embedded in the story I'm reading hit a little closer to home because they actually happened. That said, I loved this book, and partly because this is future fiction- great storytelling about events that (hopefully wont) become history someday. The author embeds very real, very actual emerging trends in genetics inside a dramatic account of what 'could be...' if we aren't careful. The characters come alive throughout, and Dellinger develops them with skill that belies a deeper understanding of the human condition. All in all a great read.

Doctor Mosquito A Novel Richard C Dellinger 9780998697802 Books Reviews
Brilliantly written narrative describing the horrors of scientific genetic engineering and ensuing results. Looking forward to more novels from this author. 5 stars because the story line and cast of characters were woven together in such a suspenseful way that it was hard to put this book down. One of the best suspense novels I have read in a long time.
I found Dr. Mosquito to be a captivating read and I commonly was searching for time in my schedule to get to the next chapter. I found the protagonist, Dr. Birch, to be fascinating and empathetic and I really felt his drive to solve the mysteries and emergencies presented to him through the author's illustrative writing style. As an immunologist/geneticist, I was very pleased by the accuracy of the descriptions of the scientific principles and techniques described in the story and only toward the end of the book was I reminded that this is a work of science fiction. I give this book a very high rating and I have shared it with my sister, who was "chomping at the bit" to read it after I shared my review of it with her. I will be looking forward to Richard Dellinger's next work.
A great read. I must admit, I saw an advertisement on Facebook for this book that was directed towards me because I have "liked" Michael Crichton. The story wasn't as deep as Crichton's novels it was a great read. I finished the book in only a few short hours, leaving me wanting for a little more. It seemed the second and third parts of the story were developed too quickly. It felt like they were over before they began.
Overall, I would recommend this book to any sci-fi thriller fan. For his first work, I think Richard C. Dellinger did a great job. I will read his works in the future.
This is an awesome book of what can happen if man experiments with things only God should control. You will not put this book down until you are done. I usually read the apocalypse genre books but thought I would step out side the zone and read this. I hope this new author does more writing like this!!!!!
I read a lot of books by established authors who do not have the writing and story chops of this new author, Richard C Dellinger. It has a great beginning, middle, and end. Loved the characterization. He didn't overload the story with too much information or the infinitely boring over use of interior monologues other authors use to pad their word count. It was free of distracting language and adult bookstore type interludes. This is a thoroughly exciting and satisfying read from beginning to end. Mr. Dellinger, when publishers want to pay you what you're worth, please do not allow them to ruin your gift for telling a great story well. Thank you.
Richard Dellinger explores a topic brought forth in Michael Crichton's novel "Jurassic Park" - just because we can do something doesn't mean we should. Genetic manipulation has given man "god-like" power but the question that is often ignored is whether we have the wisdom to use it? Dellinger brings this question into focus by showing the delicate balance of the good that can come from the manipulated genome and the ease to which it can be quickly used as a weapon that could destroy with terrible swiftness.
The novel addresses both sides with the true dilemma of the need for genetics and the horrible misuse by those who have evil intents.
Overall I believe the author addressed the most powerful dilemma there is, even with the best intentions, man doesn't have the wisdom to wield the power of creation.
The theme of this thrill ride sci-fi novel is "Don't mess with Mother Nature." It is a great, great read with a reluctant hero in Pete, who has so much to overcome yet does so, believably. It begins with mass deaths and unexplained genetic mutations and gallops through the where, why and how. How far away are we from this science? Not far. The author leaves us with some ethical questions ... but first you have to catch your breathe! Fabulous first novel debut from Rich Dellinger. "Lions and tigers and bears, Oh My!"
I must admit, I'm not a big reader of fiction. I gravitate to those historical "truth is stranger than fiction" novels because I like the realism, believing that the kernels of truths and events embedded in the story I'm reading hit a little closer to home because they actually happened.
